Don't Make Waves: How to Avoid Common Mistakes on Your First Carnival Cruise

Hey y'all, it's Addy here from Addy and Terry, travel advisor content creators, and I've got a story for you. Terry and I have been on 40 cruises, but let me tell you, we made some rookie mistakes on our first few cruises with Carnival that we want to help you avoid.

First off, mistake number one: not planning your trip. We thought we could just wing it, but boy were we wrong. We didn't plan our excursions, dinners, or outfits, and we either overpacked or under-packed. Trust me, you don't want to be caught on day one asking, "what's that?!" Do yourself a favor and plan ahead.

Mistake number two: picking the wrong cabin. We didn't check where our cabin was located on the ship and ended up hearing the loud anchor chain every time we ported. Now, we always know where the elevators, restaurants, Kids Club, and pool are before picking a cabin.

Mistake number three: not researching what you can and cannot bring on board. We had no idea we could bring canned sodas, juices, or wine on board. Do your research, or better yet, work with a travel advisor like Terry and me to ensure a successful trip.

Mistake number four: not booking an excursion. We thought we couldn't afford it, but we later learned how stress-free and enjoyable excursions can be. Book at least one in one port, there are excursions for just about anything!

Mistake number five: not using a travel advisor. We didn't know about any specials, promotions, or discounts we could have taken advantage of. A good travel advisor will ask lots of questions and customize an experience for you.

Mistake number six: drinking the expensive bottled water in the cabin. Don't fall for it, buy your own water pack online or refill your own bottle at breakfast. The pre-stocked water in your cabin is $5 a bottle!

Mistake number seven: overspending on pictures. Don't get caught up in all the photo opportunities, pre-purchase a portrait package or limit yourself to a few downloads.

Last but not least, mistake number eight: not knowing the total cost of the trip. Be mindful of your budget and prepay your gratuities to avoid a sticker shock bill the last night of the cruise.

Well, that's all for now. Don't make the same mistakes we did, and if you need any help with your travels, Terry and I are here for you. See you around the ship!
