Here’s everything you need to know about this spectacular ship and its incredible itinerary.

As one of the newest additions to Holland America's fleet, this Pinnacle-class ship boasts a capacity of 2,668 guests and a crew of 1,025, ensuring a personalized and attentive service throughout your journey. Itinerary: From Fort Lauderdale to the Caribbean Treasures

Our adventure began in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a bustling port city known for its boating canals and stunning beaches. From here, the Rotterdam set sail on a captivating journey to three enchanting destinations:

  1. Belize City, Belize

First stop, Belize City! Known for its rich history and vibrant culture, Belize City offers a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. You can explore the ancient Mayan ruins of Xunantunich (like we did), snorkel in the Belize Barrier Reef, or simply relax on the pristine beaches. The city's friendly locals and delicious cuisine add an extra layer of charm to your visit.

  2. Costa Maya, Mexico

Next, we were supposed to stop at Costa Maya, a hidden gem on Mexico's Caribbean coast. This port is a gateway to fascinating Mayan ruins, lush jungles, and beautiful beaches. But this is one of those ports that Terry and I like to call a “hit or miss” port. If the weather isn’t perfect conditions, most captains will choose to not port. The port is subject to high winds and rough waves so it is usually up to the captain to make the call of porting or not. We were given another glorious day at sea.

  3. Cozumel, Mexico

Our final destination before returning to Fort Lauderdale was the island paradise of Cozumel. Known for its world-class diving and snorkeling sites, Cozumel offers crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life. If you prefer land-based adventures, the island's charming town of San Miguel is perfect for exploring local shops, tasting authentic Mexican cuisine, and soaking in the island vibes. We chose to go to Paradise Beach Club. It was a wonderful day of relaxing by the pool and eating some yummy food.

Highlights of the Ship

The Rotterdam shines in many areas, making it a top choice for discerning travelers. Here are some of the standout features that left us thoroughly impressed:

  • Culinary Delights: The dining options aboard the Rotterdam are exceptional. From the sophisticated Dining Room offering gourmet meals to specialty restaurants like Rudi’s Sel de Mer, where you can savor fresh seafood, every meal is a culinary adventure. Don’t miss the Grand Dutch Café for a taste of traditional Dutch treats and fine European beer.

  • Entertainment: The ship’s entertainment lineup is top-notch. The World Stage features immersive performances with a 270-degree LED screen, while the B.B. King’s Blues Club brings the best of Memphis blues to the high seas. For a more laid-back vibe, head to the Rolling Stone Rock Room for classic rock hits performed by talented musicians.

  • Staterooms and Suites: Whether you opt for a cozy interior stateroom or a lavish Neptune Suite, comfort and style are guaranteed. The rooms are thoughtfully designed with plush bedding, ample storage, and modern amenities. Our Verandah Stateroom offered breathtaking ocean views, making it a perfect retreat after a day of exploration.

  • Greenhouse Spa & Salon: For ultimate relaxation, the Greenhouse Spa & Salon is a sanctuary of tranquility. Indulge in a soothing massage, unwind in the thermal suite, or enjoy a rejuvenating facial. It’s the perfect place to recharge your mind and body.

What's Missing from the Ship

While the Rotterdam excels in many areas, there are a few aspects that could be enhanced to elevate the guest experience even further:

  • Pool Area Size: Given the ship’s capacity, the main pool area can feel a bit crowded during peak times. Adding another pool or expanding the current one would provide more space for guests to relax and enjoy the sun without feeling cramped.

  • Fitness Center Space: The fitness center is well-equipped, but it can get busy, especially during sea days. A larger space or additional fitness facilities would accommodate more guests and reduce wait times for equipment.

Main Takeaways from the Trip

Our voyage on the Rotterdam was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we stepped aboard, we were enveloped in luxury and treated to top-tier service. The ship’s elegant design, coupled with its diverse amenities and exceptional dining options, created an environment that was both relaxing and exciting.

The itinerary was perfectly curated, offering a mix of cultural immersion, historical exploration, and beachside relaxation. Each port of call provided unique experiences, and the excursions offered by Holland America Line were well-organized and enriching.

While there are minor areas for improvement, the overall experience was overwhelmingly positive. The Rotterdam is an excellent choice for travelers seeking a luxurious and memorable cruise through the Caribbean. Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or a first-timer, this ship promises an adventure filled with unforgettable moments and breathtaking destinations.

So, pack your bags, bring your sense of adventure, and get ready to set sail on the Rotterdam. Trust us, this is one voyage you don’t want to miss!
