Restaurant Review: Deaverdura

Where is it?

A small, local no-frills restaurant in the residential area Old San Juan. It is within walking distance of the cruise port and easy to locate at 200 Calle Sol San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Menu

The compact menu is overflowing with delicious flavors, showcasing popular dishes such as succulent roasted pork, flavorful rice and beans (which go hand in hand with the in-house prepared hot sauces), delicious empanadas, crispy tostones, and freshly made sausage.

Type of Restaurant

It is a cozy restaurant that features traditional Puerto Rican cuisine. They serve delicious and hearty food made with fresh ingredients, rather than creating an elaborate dining experience.

What’s It Gonna Cost Me?

When we ate here, it was very affordable. We ordered the sample platter for four with two cocktails each and our total including a nice gratuity was around $100! It was so much food and the cocktails were plentiful.

Who Eats Here…

We found this restaurant as a referral from a local resident. Deavurdura is a favorite among locals, who appreciate its home-style cooking and friendly atmosphere. So if you like eating at local “mom and pop” type restaurants or small “hole in the wall” restaurants, this is definitely the spot for you. This restaurant is for someone that loves Puerto Rican cuisine as everything on the menu is made from scratch! It is the perfect restaurant for everyone, as there are options for vegan/vegetarians as well as a few gluten free options.

What’s the Vibe?

This is a cozy, small restaurant. It gives the impression that you are going to a relatives house to have lunch or dinner. The decor is simple and unpretentious, with just a few local paintings or artifacts on the walls. The tables and chairs are all painted different colors and add to the charm of being rustic and eclectic.

There is almost always a wait out the door to get a table. The first time we went, we could not get a table; even after waiting for 45 minutes. The next time we went, we ended up only waiting about 20 minutes.

How’s the food?

The food at Deavurdura is authentic. It is full of flavor and tastes as if it is made with love. The portions are large and very filling.

How’s the Service?

The service is good but not great. There is no rush to get the line down when you are waiting outside. But once you are inside, they treat you like family and take very good care of you.

The Experience…
